Daily Passage – Romans 10

Today’s passage is Romans
10
.

The verse that stood out in my mind is:

“But what does it say? “THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART”–that
is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth
Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will
be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with
the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” Romans 10:8-10

This is still a verse that I wonder about. I know it goes deep in theology about salvation
and who is saved but I haven’t completey formed an opinion about it. I know in one
sense that salvation only comes from the Lord but at times when I read this verse
it seems like salvation comes from our tounge and heart. Is there a requirement from
us first? I don’t believe so otherwise it is under our own strength that we are saved
but rather I think it comes from God first and we respond to it. This is a tough verse
to discuss and I pray that God will lead the right people to help me understand it
more.
